Job Opening: Project Services Specialist

JOB OVERVIEW:

Reporting into the corporate Turnaround Advisor, the Project Services Specialist is accountable for the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of all aspects of turnaround services relating to Suncor Turnarounds. The successful candidate is highly proactive and provides general direction in Suncor Planning, Scheduling and Project Control processes and business practices relating to turnarounds.

Job Responsibilities:

Ensures Best in Class Project Services processes through the development of Planning, Estimating, Scheduling and Controls Standards with ongoing development and implementation of improved methods
Provides direct support to the site lead planners, schedulers and control personnel in setting up systems for each turnaround, to ensure alignment with corporate standards
Assists with the development/ maintenance of a high level of planning skill at each site through coaching Turnaround Site Planners and ensuring communications between various planning groups via the Turnaround COP groups
Ensures that learnings and common procedures are shared among facilities by maintaining a common Turnaround data base of execution procedures and estimating libraries, assisting in the co-ordination of shared resources and tools, and acting as the "conduit" for the exchange of planning information and ideas between sites
Supports/leads use of specialized software for turnarounds such as Primavera, E-taskmaker, @Task, Monte-Carlo
Interacts with the Turnaround Site Planner, and the Turnaround Leader at site, and also has significant communication and interaction with the Information Services group
Advises in the development of the Fully Integrated Turnaround Schedule at each site by reviewing each site's plan, providing assistance with detailed planning and estimating (guidelines, benchmarks), identifying materials/ services, tools/ permits required, ensuring process tracking is enabled in the plan, assistance with consolidation of plans and stakeholder reviews
Maintains common libraries of maintenance/ execution procedures; common equipment catalogues to enable access to equipment stored at each facility
Leads Community of Practice (COP) groups in Planning, Scheduling and Controls
Assume a leadership role with respect to information technology that supports the Turnaround process

Job Qualifications:

  • The incumbent must be credible in the area of project services as it relates to turnarounds, and will be dealing routinely with site Managers and Directors
  • Strong working knowledge of Project Services functions and processes, including planning, estimating, scheduling, controls (cost and schedule), turnaround management and project management
  • Maintenance management experience/training
  • Computer skills/expertise in SAP, Primavera
  • Non-authoritative leadership skills
  • Training and coaching skills
  • Knowledge of maintenance, fabrication, project and construction techniques
  • Knowledge of oil processing facilities and systems
  • Knowledge of turnaround management
  • PMI accreditation or relevant technical diploma with 10 years experience or 15 years with on the job experience.

Job Conditions:

This role will work out of Calgary
Frequent business travel is required with multiple days per trip
