Job Opening: Academic Chair – Geomatics Engineering Technology
Location: Calgary, AB, CANADA
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Construction, the Academic Chair is a management level position that provides leadership for program activities and collaborates on departmental and institutional strategic goals and initiatives, including, but not limited to: academic excellence, learner experience, stakeholder/market focus and community outreach. The Academic Chair will work closely with faculty members, other Academic Chairs, and Earned Revenue Coordinators in the School of Construction.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Lead the development of strategic planning in the area that addresses quality as measured by Program Success Indicators (PSI)
• Set and meet budget objectives associated with program area operations
Student Recruitment and Retention
• Evaluate learner satisfaction results and develop action plans for improvement where necessary
• Drive recruitment, retention and tracking of student academic progress
• Manage learner practicum, work experience or co-op programs
• Manage learner issues escalated beyond the instructor level
Equipment, Facilities, and Technology
• Manage resources, scheduling and recommendations for growth based on market demand to ensure an effective learning environment that is fiscally efficient
• Ensure that teaching environments are suitable and maintained, and provide feedback for capacity renewal plans
Curriculum Development and Review
• Collaborate with the department Curriculum Coordinator by supporting the curriculum development processes and standards and identifying the requirements for curriculum improvements
• Support and manage the introduction of e-Learning into programs where appropriate and required
• Ensure that programs are accredited and maintain accreditation where required/appropriate
• Establish and maintain contacts with SAIT programs and industry
• Lead the programs through industry Program Advisory Committee meetings and reviews
Personnel
• Manage employee recruitment, orientation, scheduling and supervising faculty
• Lead performance management and coaching of faculty for teaching excellence in the classroom, including professional development plans and recognition
• Empower staff and faculty to feel passionate about the future of SAIT and the School of Construction
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicants will have a relevant degree (preferred) or diploma, and a minimum of five to seven years related experience or management experience. An Alberta Land Surveyor designation is preferred. Specific knowledge of the current and forecasted industry trends is an asset. Experience in teaching, curriculum design, distributed learning and adult education would be an asset. Experience in managing people and projects would also be considered an asset.
