Job Opening: System Administrator
Location: Toronto, ON, CANADA
Job Description:
The System Administrator is responsible for effective provisioning, installation/configuration, operation, and maintenance of systems hardware and software and related infrastructure. As part of the Infrastructure Team, the successful candidate will be a detail-oriented individual, who would quickly become a key team member responsible for the administration and support of the Toronto office with minimal supervision.
Job Responsibilities:
· Investigate and troubleshoot various hardware, software and network related issues
· Install new and rebuild existing servers /desktops and configure hardware, peripherals, services, settings, directories, storage, etc. in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements
· Install and maintain desk top and server applications and utilities
· Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs, and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups etc.
· Perform daily backup operations, ensuring all required file systems and system data are successfully backed up to the appropriate media, recovery tapes or disks are created, and media is recycled and sent off site as necessary
· Perform regular file archival and purge as necessary
· Prepare and maintain up to date documentation for internal and external hardware and various configuration
· Create, change, and delete user accounts per request
· Resolve operational issues involving servers, disk space, workstations etc.
· Research and recommend innovative approaches for system administration tasks.
· Demonstrate good judgment in solving problems as well as identifying problems and proposing solutions
Job Requirements:
· BA/BS degree, with emphasis on computer science, management information systems for business or equivalent
· At least 4 years of system administration experience -managing Windows, Active Directory and Linux environments.
· Outstanding troubleshooting and problem solving skills are a must
· Strong understanding of Windows and Linux OS Tuning, networking and NIC optimization
· Previous experience working in Financial Markets or fast paced, dynamic environments
· Experience with systems monitoring: SNMP, WMI, etc
· Scripting skills eg. PERL, Window Powershell, VBS, HTML, PHP, etc
· Experience in managing backups is a must
· Experienced in Data Center server installation, patching, cabling and basic LAN troubleshooting
· Excellent organizational skills, strong communication skills, both written and verbal are required
· Must be highly proficient in Microsoft Visio and MS Office
· An exceptionally motivated self-starter that can manage his/her time with little direction and supervision
· This candidate must have the ability and proven skill set to manage, coordinate and prioritize work tasks to ensure timely and quality work
· Certifications are preferred. MCSA or MCSE will give priority to candidates.
