JOB SUMMARY:

Within the context of primary health care with a population health approach and within the vision and values of Vancouver Coastal Health and within the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia’s (CRNBC) Standards of Practice, and the Canadian Community Health Nursing Standards, provides a full continuum of prevention, health promotion and early intervention services to enhance the optimal health, well being and safety of infants and children, and their families/caregivers by identifying and prioritizing wellness needs and developing and maintaining community partnerships to provide health promotion, advocacy, counseling, education, assessment, referral and intervention in a variety of community based settings.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:


Job Education & Experience:

Baccalaureate in Nursing including training in public health nursing. A minimum of two (2) years recent related experience in public health nursing, including experience with prenatal, postpartum and infant/toddler families, providing breastfeeding support, maternal/infant/child/family physical/psychosocial/developmental assessments and early intervention strategies or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Current practicing registration with the College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC). Valid BC Drivers License. Local area travel requires the use of a personal vehicle for which mileage will be reimbursed.

Job Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:


Comprehensive knowledge and practice of public health nursing theory within a primary health care and population health approach. Comprehensive knowledge of the College of Registered Nurses’ of British Columbia standards for Nursing Practice. Comprehensive knowledge of evidence based nursing practice related to pregnancy and birth, infancy and early childhood, including normal growth and development, family theory and multicultural health practices. Working knowledge of Baby Friendly Initiative. Demonstrated ability to counsel clients and their families. Demonstrated leadership skills. Working knowledge of immunization protocols and communicable disease control. Ability to successfully complete the Provincial Immunization Certification. Working knowledge of harm reduction model and strategies. Broad knowledge of community development, health promotion principles and practices and the determinants of health. Demonstrated training, facilitation, clinical support and consultative skills. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Demonstrated ability to provide culturally sensitive nursing services to diverse and marginalized populations. Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with clients, families, members of the ICY Team, CHC staff and community partners. Demonstrated ability to adjust to new or unexpected events. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work. Demonstrated facilitation, mediation and conflict resolution skills. Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills. Demonstrated ability to work independently and interdependently and make sound nursing practice decisions. Demonstrated ability to develop and evaluate health education resources. Knowledge of research process and methodology. Demonstrated ability to critically read and utilize current health research in evidence based practice. Demonstrated ability to identify community resources appropriate to client/family/community needs. Demonstrated computer skills including the ability to effectively use a computerized client care information system and Windows applications Demonstrated skill in CPR techniques. Demonstrated physical ability to perform the duties of the position. Demonstrated ability to use related equipment
