Job Opening: Protection and Control Engineer

As part of the SNC-Lavalin group of companies, SNC-Lavalin T & D designs, develops, and delivers engineering, including system planning and studies, procurement, and construction solutions for high voltage power transmission line and substation projects in North America and abroad.
SNC-Lavalin T & D has exciting full time career opportunities for Junior, Intermediate and Senior Engineers to join our team in the area of Substation protection and control for High Voltage substations. Based out of our Calgary, Vancouver and Toronto offices, our Electrical Engineers (P&C) are responsible for protective relay settings and for the delivery of Protection & Control systems for our high voltage substation projects.
The Electrical Engineer (P&C) is required to work within a multi-discipline team to develop efficient and reliable Protection & Control systems. The incumbent will coordinate his/her design activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion. The incumbent will also assist the Estimating Team in preparation of estimates and project proposals.
This position is accountable to provide design activities in accordance with applicable codes and standards, including SNC-Lavalin's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.
Job Responsibilities:
·Carry out/review/analyze complex technical studies and project scopes.
·Develop and review technical specifications, drawings and standards of equipment/ projects.
·Review the design based memorandum, detailed engineering scope and guide the assigned discipline engineers to align the engineering deliverables according to project requirements.
·Delivery of accurate and thorough designs that will meet industry standards and specifications, and meet good engineering practice with excellent constructability.
·Review of internal and external designs for code compliance, good design practice and constructability.
·Resolving site queries, attending site meetings and performing site inspections during the construction phase of projects.
·Maintain complete project documentation with respect to engineering studies and calculations, all design packages, as-built requirements and return data information.
·Maintain good working relationship with internal groups that support project such as other Engineering disciplines, Drafting, Procurement, Construction and Project Management etc.
·Selection of equipment and material and preparation of specifications for material, equipment, construction and installation work.
Develop relay setting calculations and coordination report.
Mentoring and providing guidance to developing engineers within the department.
Job Qualifications:
·A degree Electrical Engineering from a recognized institution.
·Eligible for registration with APEGGA (Alberta), PEO (Ontario), APEGBC (British Columbia) or OIQ (Quebec)
·A minimum of 2 years experience required for Intermediate positions
·A minimum of 5 years experience required for Engineer positions
·A minimum of 8 years experience required for Senior positions.
·Knowledge of modern power system, power system protection and relay technologies.
·Strong client focus.
