Job Opening: Junior Transmission Line Engineer

As part of the SNC-Lavalin group of companies, SNC-Lavalin T & D designs, develops, and delivers engineering, including system planning and studies, procurement, and construction solutions for high voltage power transmission line and substation projects from our Canadian, United States and International office locations.
SNC-Lavalin T & D has exciting full time career opportunities for electrical and civil engineering graduates in the role of Junior Transmission Line Engineer. Based out of our Vancouver, Calgary, Toronto and Montreal offices, our Junior Engineers are responsible for supporting design activities while contributing to the material specifications for our transmission line projects.
The Junior Engineer is required to work within a multi-discipline team to perform mechanical or electrical calculations relating to the proper layout and design of support structures, conductors and ancillary components comprising high voltage transmission lines. Additionally, he/she is required to prepare and assemble the documentation contained in construction packages. It is expected that the Junior Engineer gains familiarity with the specific construction practices of the transmission industry in North America. A junior engineer will coordinate his/her activities to maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion.
The Junior Engineer is responsible under supervision to provide all activities in accordance with all applicable codes and standards, including all of SNC-Lavalin's policies and procedures, such as Safety, Environmental, Quality Assurance and Quality Control.

Job Responsibilities:

. Assist senior engineers with the preparation of technical reports, construction documents or procurement requests as required by projects.
. Assist senior engineers with the preparation of material, specifications, scopes of work, inspection and testing plans, and bid documents.
. Assist senior engineers with calculations and with the development of specific engineering methods to determine the specifications of transmission line components, requiring the application of fundamental engineering principles.

Job Qualifications:

. Completed degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering from a recognized institution.
. Eligible for registration with APEGGA (Alberta), PEO (Ontario), APEGBC (British Columbia), or OIQ (Montreal) and a minimum of 1 years experience in any engineering related activity.
. Demonstrated knowledge of fundamentals of Power Systems, structural design, foundations or material strengths coordination.
. Strong spatial comprehension.
. A high level of interpersonal skills.
. Knowledge of Canadian and Alberta codes and standards, including OH&S Regulations, CSA and AECUC codes is an asset.
. Familiarity with CAD tools is an asset.
