Job Opening: HR Manager
Location: Calgary, AB, CANADA
The successful candidate will serve as a critical liaison and employee advocate, working as a Business Partner to Regional General Managers, District Managers, and Line Management.
Job Responsibilities:
Leadership and Operations
Strategic business partner and change agent. Participate in and support problem solving efforts designed to enhance the efficient operation of the organization.
Assist the development and implementation of human resources strategies, policies and procedures to create an organizational culture that supports the business mission and strategies.
Assists the development of communication strategies involving regulations and procedures to employees
Collect, develop, extract, maintain, and analyse key HR metrics and other workforce management data such as turnover, recruitment costs, training, demographic profiles, terminations, skill shortages, etc. Based on findings, make program, policy, and process recommendations to support the business.
Sources and initiates contact with potential vendors and third party providers.
Training, Development and Succession Planning
Determine training requirements based on needs analyses.
Influence the delivery of training and development programs. Through the use of metrics, track the impact of the selected training program on the organization.
Coach and mentor line management in leadership skills, change management, and motivation.
Leads Succession Planning and Individual Development Planning initiatives to ensure continuous development of the high performing and high potential employees.
A partner with managers to ensure strategic talent movement is occurring.
Evaluation of the efficiency and effectiveness of various corporate HR planning, program and policy development and programs to attain organization objectives
Keeps informed of local market trends that could impact EI competitiveness in regards to attraction and retention of staff.
Employee/Labour Relations
Provide employee relations support, including internal dispute resolution, legislation interpretation, policy and procedure interpretation, counselling, and employee communications
Coach managers in effective employee performance management, alignment and engagement of employees in the delivery of departmental goals, and overall talent management
Counsel employees regarding career opportunities, personal development, management-employee relations issues, company policy, HR programs.
Develop and maintain positive employee relations programs
Leads labour relations initiatives for the organization
Health and Safety
Aids in establishing or improving safety culture throughout the company.
Accountable for health and safety compliance and legislative requirements.
Responsible for health and safety cost containment
Monitors core health and safety training including; First Aid, Health and Safety Certification, WHIMIS, forklift certification, and various site related safety requirements.
Supports health and safety representative with claims management for workplace and non-workplace injury or disease including accident Investigations and filing claims with Worker's Compensation Boards. May act as the company representative at WCB hearings and appeals.
Participates in and provides support to Joint Health and Safety Committees
Legal and Policy
Prepares all documents in "separation of employment" situations. Participates in all terminations of employment.
Act as company representative in employment standards challenges with the Ministry of Labour and common law process.
Train employees on legislative requirements including human rights, ESA, health and safety, employment equity, pay equity, workplace harassment, diversity, and leadership development subjects.
Train managers on administration of corrective action to employees. Guide all corrective action pertaining to suspensions and terminations.
Job Compensation and Benefits:
Coordinate and administer annual pay increases.
Develop communication strategy and material, ensuring managers and employees receive timely and easy to understand information on their compensation packages
Oversight of compensation year-end processes and related communications, liaising with senior management to ensure HR key messages are embedded in all compensation related communication.
Research and collection of local compensation trends information, providing Senior Management with meaningful and actionable summaries of compensation trends to help them optimize compensation and understand the competitive landscape.
Liaise with the Finance Leaders and assists with the preparation of compensation accruals, budgets and forecasts.
Recruitment and Selection
Recruitment of any management positions for the organization
Coach and mentor line management on effective recruitment techniques
Provide HR direction in the development of job descriptions.
Determine attraction strategies and sources for vacancies
Coordinate and aid in the onbarding process of new employees
Provide assistance with mass hiring event strategy, partnership with external agencies and building relationships with community partners.
Job Specification:
Experience
Minimum 7 years of hands on Human Resources Generalist experience preferably in the manufacturing, construction or related industries, with at least 4 years in a management capacity.
Education
A Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Business.
Human Resources based designation from a Professional Human Resources Association or equivalent.
Skills
Computer skills in full MS Office suite.
Other
Ability to accommodate some infrequent business travel
Competencies
Ability to present business cases and/or proposals to regional senior management.
Experience and proven ability to interface with senior management to resolve issues and to determine viable solutions.
Strong customer-focus with good listening and clear message transmission capabilities.
Strong communications skills - verbal, written, and presentation
Willingness to take ownership of issues, make decisions and follow through for results and problem solving.
Aptitude for continuous self-development
Willingness to learn new process, techniques, and technologies.
Experience in organizational design and project management.
