Job Opening: Technical Team Lead
Location: Toronto, ON, CANADA

PURPOSE OF POSITION
Technical Team Lead provides significant technical knowledge, thought leadership, and action to support the delivery of business and technology sponsored initiatives through the design, development, and maintenance of application software.  This includes striking an appropriate balance between achieving near-term results, achieving longer-term efficiencies, managing risks, and continuous improvement.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

·   Responsible for leading and providing hands-on execution in the areas of design, development, and maintenance
·   Leads in the management and execution of the development process: source control/changeset/build management, development environment suitability, design and code reviews, metrics/indicators to assess efficiency and effectiveness
·   Provides supervision, guidance, coaching as well as feedback including performance appraisals to a team of Programmer Analysts
·   Responsible for the team's adherence to standards, practices and procedures to ensure that solutions are designed and developed according to agreed upon methods.  This includes managing risks associated with the ongoing maintenance and support of in-house developed solutions and integration with 3rd party solutions
·   Responsible for the efficient operation, growth and continuous improvement of a work team's capabilities and serves as an escalation point for the resolution of issues
·   Participates and/or leads in new technology investigation and makes recommendations for new technology adoption where appropriate

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Computer Science or Engineering degree or equivalent working experience
·         Thorough knowledge of information systems theories, concepts, methods, and techniques
·         Minimum 7 years design and development experience with at least 3 years in a lead developer capacity
·         Experience in leading initiatives through the full software development life cycle with proven ability to assume a leadership role in design and development activities
·         Experience in implementing and maintaining business solutions using C#, ASP.NET, XML/XSLT and Web Services targeting major relational databases (MSSQL, Oracle) in a .NET environment
·         Experience using VSTS/TFS to manage and report on application development work items, source code, change sets, and builds
·         Experience with middleware technologies such as Tibco, WebSphere, and IIS
·         Experience with solution delivery in the capital markets industry is desirable

·         Expert in effective application architecture and design to support associated business requirements for agility and maintainability
·         Effective in team management functions - in both direct and matrix settings - exercising sound judgment, management and problem solving skills
·         Reviews industry perspectives on IT, financial services, application lifecycle tools and techniques, and general technology trends to inform planning
·         Exercises effective critical thinking in balancing short term tactical delivery of solutions with long term plans that promote solution agility and maintainability
·         Ability to work independently, prioritize work assignments, meet deadlines and produce a significant volume of work
·         Fosters a collaborative team based approach in building a culture of openness, creativity, and high performance
·         Works with moderate supervision and is proactive in soliciting management direction as appropriate.  Demonstrates a willingness to take on responsibility and is able to execute autonomously
·         Ability to multi-task and work on multiple projects with varying priorities and deadlines
